who is Tamor Kriwaczek?
I
am a painter, born in 1972, and living in London. I have my
own ideas and methods, having been influenced by many, and infuriated
by many more, the result being paintings that are unlike anyone
elses.
what have i been doing?
- i started painting when i was 14 and immediately
new that i was going to do that for the rest of my life.
- when i was 17, in 1989, i produced several
conceptual art pieces based on the idea of making you aware
of the space you are in by creating a web constructed from
a continuous cord, initially tied in one place, crossing
the space in every direction culminating in a piece that
tied up the childrens play area in my local park in Hendon,
north London - playing with space where as i child i had
played in space.
- After that, and a brief and inconsequential
year at Camberwell College of Art, i developed a powerfull
expressionist style of painitng. developing this style led
me to complete several portrait commissions and exhibitions
in london.
- this then led to me experimenting with
several other styles, influenced by bacon, picasso, van-gogh
and others which in turn led to the New Aesthetic (see below),
and several exhibitions based on this.
- Now my painitngs are still based on the
New Aesthetic, though more subtle and mature, and including
figures as well as landscapes.
- more recently i have been working on an
idea for a computer program that generates abstract portraits
based on individuals personal details called how
do i see you.

what is the New Aesthetic?
the new aesthetic is a term i use to describe a multi-styled form
of painting. the idea is based on the fact that different styles of
painting are good at different things. therefore, when one is painting,
for example, a woman sitting in a chair, partially clothed, one might
paint the skin in one style, maybe fairly realistically, the clothing
in another more abstract style to get accross the physicallity of
the cloth, the chair in another style, perhaps more rigid and abstract
and maybe blending into the background which may be completely abstract
as a backdrop to the main focus of the picture. an obvious example
of painting in this way is On the Bed
where the face is realistic, the rest of the body is slightly abstracted
in its patterning, the douvet on the bed has its own style, and the
background is abstract. The use of different styles within a single
painting creates a New Aesthetic where different styles play against
each other as different colours do traditionally.
why buy my paintings?
i try to paint paintings that are unique, inventive and inspiring,
the kind of paintings that do not follow a predefined course but
each defining its own conclusions, its own world. you can be sure
that one of my paintings is original, unique, and whose interest
will not dim with time.
what's so good about my paintings?
what i aim for in any painting, regardless of subject, is to
make it powerfull, creating a work of art that has depth and is
memorable, that grabs your attention and maintains it indefinately.
where can you see my paintings?
from time to time i have exhibitions that you can find out about
on this website, or join my mailing list. however, if there is a
painting that you are particularly interested in, click
